Renewable energy–like wind and solar–is the most sensible energy source for the Philippines in the face of the climate crisis. It is reliable, affordable, and the solution the world needs to prevent the worst impacts of climate change.
But instead of prioritizing a swift transition to RE, the new government is paving the way for dirty, dangerous, and expensive energy: nuclear and fossil gas. This blatantly disregards the people’s call for a concrete, sustainable, and safe solution to the power crisis through renewable energy.
Current and future generations will be left to face the dangerous risks of harnessing nuclear energy and fossil gas, on top of the impacts of the climate crisis.
Nuclear is the most dangerous and most expensive source of electricity and is the last thing the Filipino people need at a time when we are already deep in debt and trying to recover from a major health crisis. Fossil gas might produce less carbon than coal, but it emits another greenhouse gas – methane, which is up to 105 times more potent than carbon dioxide over a 20-year time horizon.
The Marcos Jr. administration must show that it’s really serious about protecting Filipinos and championing climate justice by dropping planned nuclear and fossil gas projects and pursuing a transformative energy policy grounded on clean, safe, and accessible renewable energy.

To: President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr.
Take genuine action for climate justice. Protect Filipinos by ensuring a safe, sustainable, future free from nuclear energy & fossil gas.
